I have decided to extend my stay in the Art Gallery Shop at the Gallic Kitchen in Bramleys, Abbeyleix, until the 9th of January. Starting tomorrow , Tuesday, at 9.30am, I will have a sale on selected items with up to 20% off In Store. I’ve really enjoyed the experience and met so many really wonderful, supportive people. Thank you to everyone that has come through the door. I particularly enjoyed the Christmas Day messages from people who received one of my paintings as a Christmas gift. It’s very encouraging. Thank you all very much and I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and hope to see you in person in Abbeyleix.
I have opened the Aileen.ie Pop Up Art Gallery Shop from Thursday 18th of November through to Christmas Eve from Thursday to Sunday every week. Its at the Gallic Kitchen, 10 Main Street, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, R32 D8C0. If you’re in Abbeyleix and have the urge to view some original art and maybe indulge in some fantastic lunch options please call in. I hope to be there on both the Thursday and Friday mornings up to lunchtime and lunchtime until early afternoon Saturday and Sunday. If anyone wants to view the Gallery outside these times please contact me and I’ll make myself available. This is such a fantastic premises and a lovely town to visit. Hope to see you in the coming weeks.
I am taking part in Mountain View Markets – The first time a pop-up art gallery has been organised by the market. There are thirty local artists taking part and this unique event is scheduled to take place on the 24th of October, from 11AM to 4PM. There will be complimentary wines and canapés available on the day. Eircode R95 NH31
I have these 3 paintings in the Grúpa Exhibition in Peppers Lane Art Gallery until the end of August. If you’re in the Portlaoise area, please feel free to pop in to Aishling Hennessy – Artist. The exhibition showcases local artists from Co. Laois and beyond.
I will be running 2 Mixed Media art classes in August. One class is for Special Needs Children and a parent/guardian and the other is for a group of Senior Citizens. I propose using various household items such as sponges, Q tips, an ornate table mat, old toothbrushes, modelling paste (not so much household!), plastic knives and acrylic paint. I will supply a 60 x 60cm canvas and by the time everyone finishes the class the plan is they will have a new canvas fit to display in their home. It will be a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The first class is on the 20th of August from 2 to 4. This is for Special Needs Children accompanied by a parent/guardian age 8 years plus. As a mother of special needs children, I know only too well our special children don’t get asked to much and that’s why I really wanted to do this class.
The second class is on the 21st of August from 11 to 1. This is for older people who have felt lonely and isolated over the past year and 4 months. I just ask that everyone wears old clothes, bring an apron and perhaps plastic gloves because you will get your hands dirty!
Both classes are in Dunamaise Arts Centre subject to Government advice.
Any queries please contact me at 0872428889 or hello@aileen.ie.
Booking is essential through Dunamaise Arts Centre (05786 63355).

I am a member of the Laois Arthouse Collective. A group of eleven artists are having an exhibition entitled ‘Collective Thoughts’ in Dunamaise Arts Centre for the month of July and August which is open to the public from July 12th to August 28th. I have three pieces in this exhibition ‘Siren‘, ‘Bring me to Life‘ and ‘She Sells Sanctuary 2‘ which centre on the Mother Earth/busy Mother figure. There will be live and online workshops also in conjunction with the exhibition. See Dunamaise.ie for more information. With special thanks to @bankofireland and @businesstoarts for supporting this Exhibition, workshops and demos of our Collective Thoughts.
For my pieces I used Mannequins to represent Mother Earth/Mother Figure.
My main piece She Sells Sanctuary represents the Mother figure. I incorporated roots coming from the bellybutton to represent life itself. The roots spread all over the canvas which represents the Mother being pulled in all directions. The Mother suddenly was a teacher, nurse, doctor, chauffeur, therapist, leader. The sun/moon represent night and day, daylight and moonlight because families were at home day and night 24 hours a day. I also made the mannequin appear grubby like to signify the Mother figure not having time or energy for herself.
My pregnant mannequin ‘Bring me to Life‘ represents Mother Nature making a comeback. Our air was less polluted, people were gardening and growing their own food more than ever and investigating what herbs/natural products was good for their own health. Literally, In Bloom.
Siren represents the Earths elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth which are all essential for life.
